I don't do New Year's resolutions any more because I've only ever kept one over the years. In 1981 I quit smoking. Okay I'm glad about that but that is the only one. I haven't lost an ounce of weight from a New Year's resolution yet. So, to resolutions, I say bah hum bug.
I do have expectations though. I expect things to get a whole lot better in 2009. Let's face it--could they get much worse? I think we're going to get off to a fresh start in the world, in our country and in our lives this year. I'd like to get started with some energy friendly solar panels for my house. I'm trying to get into a program to get that done so I'm crossing my fingers that I succeed. Wouldn't it be nice to have solar energy and just plug in our cars? Maybe--just maybe--we can get that. Not in 2009 though I think.
I have plenty of wishes for 2009. I wish my next book would make the New York Times best seller list--even for just a day. I wish my darling Golden Retriever, Kate, could survive terminal bone cancer. I wish my family could act right and appreciate me or at least not embarrass me with their antics when we go on vacation. I wish I could win the lottery for 200 million dollars. Well, you get the picture.
What I would really like to see in 2009 is (no kidding) peace in the world, my countrymen/women energized and proud once again to be Americans, an economy that is surging upward, jobs and education for everyone who wants it, affordable healthcare for everyone, an end to animal cruelty and global warming and a recommitment to research and exploration of space. Wow, that's some big desires there.
Mostly I want hope and happiness to return and that we each have the power to bring about. So, to each and all of you I wish an extraordinary New Year, one filled with hope, good health, strength of spirit and a light heart.
Sending happy thoughts and wishes to you and yours in your corner of the universe.
